Common Questions
Should you single axel your HDT?
Pro
• More bed storage • Less maintenance • Potentially shorter (daily driver) • Less tires to check/worry about • Better traction & ride
•Higher/easier resale as RV Hauler • Potentially easier to insure • Better fuel economy
Con
• Cost (about $6,000) •Hassle of process – reprogramming, driveline vibration, etc.
• Less carrying capacity • Less brakes - but typically not less braking • Looks - to some
What is the average cost to build a custom bed?
This will come down to your mission profile and current cost of steel and aluminum prices.
We can comfortably say that a really simple bed with no major storage components could start in the $30,000 range and
run all the way up to $100,000 with some very custom pieces and designs. You will only be limited by your budget and not thinking big enough.
What are restrictions on length and width?
These are set by DOT. The width will be your main factor at 8ft 5in. Height can only be 13ft 6in. BUT the length since it is not a commercial vehicle can vary greatly depending on your mission profile being used on your HDT.
How long does a custom bed take to build?
This will vary greatly on how busy we are and how detailed your build will be. We like to say it will take about 10 to 12 weeks from the time of starting. Unfortunately it will depend on when you start your build and how many projects we currently are working on at that time.
